The Body Image Toolkit was developed by the Body Image Network as a teacher resource about body image and self-esteem. Its development reflected research and consultation with representatives from the Provincial Departments of Health and Education.
As it is recognized that school curriculum has a direct impact on students’ attitudes and behaviours, the Body Image Toolkit contains teaching modules for teachers in Grades 2 and 4. These modules serve as a resource for teachers in the classroom and have been linked to the provincial curriculum outcomes. Each module provides information on body image and self-esteem as well as interactive activities that can be conducted with students in the classroom.
In recognition of the importance of literacy based activities, many of the activities included in the Grade 2 module are based on the book Percy Pinhorn, written by Anne Wareham, clinical psychologist and illustrated by Newfoundland artist James Long. A pdf version of Percy Pinhorn can be downloaded below.
